Yao looked up to find amethyst orbs pouring into his own, a deep frown on the lips of the Russian before him.
“…no, aru.”
Ivan smiled but it didn’t touch his eyes. It was sad, full of too much pain, and Yao found himself experiencing the same stabbing of his old, worn heart. He held the tattered red fabric in his arms, staring up at Russia before dropping his gaze in silence.
Slowly, the taller country moved forwards and wrapped his arms around the smaller, enveloping him tightly. “Wave it proudly, da,” he whispered. “But don’t let it touch the ground.”
China said nothing, but gripped the flag with one hand, and tossed it to the wind.~~
